We love making overnight oats.
Matcha overnight oats, white chocolate raspberry overnight oats and chocolate peanut butter overnight oats are typically in our morning rotation.
Now that it’s summer and mangoes are sweet and abundant, thought I’d share the newest recipe in my overnight oats recipe collection: mango overnight oats!
It is delightfully tropical, filling and a great way to start the day.
Why you’ll love overnight mango oats

I love good old-fashioned oatmeal but since I learned how to make overnight oats, I rarely cook oatmeal anymore since overnight oats are so much easier to make.
- Easy grab-and-go breakfast. You just mix everything together the night before, transfer to containers, and enjoy the next day. Great for busy mornings and in lunch boxes.
- Perfect for meal prepping. You can make a batch that will last you a week! Saves tons of time.
- Customizable. Feel free to add your favorite spices like cinnamon, use any kind of milk, add vanilla protein powder, or top with fresh fruit, chopped nuts, toasted coconut and more.
- Filling and nutritious. Helps you avoid snacking between breakfast and lunch!
- Deliciously tropical. Best of all, it’s so good! The mango flavor is definitely the star.
How to make

Making mango oats is quick and easy. Prep time is a breeze. The hardest part is the waiting!
Ingredients
You can find the full ingredient list in the recipe card at the bottom of this page.
Here are a few things to note:
- Mango puree — if buying, make sure to buy pure unsweetened mango puree. You can also puree the mangoes yourself using a blender or food processor. Fresh or frozen mangoes will work.
- Rolled oats — I usually use rolled oats when making overnight oats. Sprouted oats and old-fashioned oats work too. I don’t recommend using instant oats because they tend to get too mushy, nor steel cut oats because they won’t absorb the liquid as much.
- Yogurt — for best results, use plain Greek yogurt. You can also use high protein plain yogurt for added nutrition.
- Milk — you can use any kind of milk like dairy, almond or coconut milk. We usually use 2% skim because that’s what we always have on hand.
- Chia seeds — don’t skip the chia seeds. They make your mixture thick and creamy. Plus, they’re healthy and good for you!
- Sweetener — if our mangoes are sweet enough, we don’t add any sweetener but if we need to, honey and maple syrup are our sweetener of choice. You can substitute with whatever you like.
Tools
You don’t need anything special to make this recipe.
Just a blender or food processor to puree your mangoes, a bowl, and containers to store the oats in.
We prefer individual mason jars but you can use any container you like.

Expert tips

Easy and straightforward, right? Here are more tips for perfectly creamy and delicious overnight oats with mango every time.
- Use the right kind of oats. When making overnight oats, it’s important to use the right kind of oats i.e.rolled oats, sprouted oats or old-fashioned oats. Avoid instant or quick cooking oats because they tend to get too mushy, and steel cut oats because they won’t absorb the liquid.
- Strain mango puree. If your mangoes are fibrous, you may want to strain the puree through a fine mesh sieve.
- Adjust the sweetness to your liking. For best results, use sweet, ripe mangoes. If necessary, add maple syrup or honey to add to the sweetness. I like to do this while incorporating the mango milk mixture; though you can also do this at the end.
- Adjust the consistency to your liking. Once you’ve mixed all ingredients together, you can already tell if the oats are the consistency you want. I find that the texture of my oats differ depending on the brand of oats I use. So if you want them runnier, add a little bit more milk. If you want them firmer, add a little bit more oats. Just remember that chia seeds absorb liquid as they soak.
- Allow enough time for the oats to set. It’s best to chill the mixture in the fridge overnight. This also helps the chia seeds absorb the liquid for a chunkier and creamier consistency.
- Add your favorite toppings. Be as creative as you like! Add berries, chopped nuts, coconut, and more. Just remember to add these before consuming and not to the mixture itself so they retain their texture.
Mango overnight oats recipe FAQs

I recommend using rolled oats or old-fashioned oats. They will result to the perfect texture and consistency.
Avoid using instant or quick cooking oats because they tend to get too mushy.
Also avoid using steel cut oats because they won’t absorb the liquid as much.
If mangoes are in season, pick your favorite! We’re partial to ataulfo mangoes and carabao mangoes if we can get them.
You can use frozen mangoes too so you can make this recipe year-round. Just make sure to thaw before pureeing.
First, gently squeeze the mango. It should give slightly. If it’s still rock hard, give it a few more days.
Second, smell the stem end. If it smells fruity and delicious, it’s sweet and ripe.
Overnights oats are usually eaten cold, straight from the fridge. But you can absolutely warm it up and enjoy.
They last 2-3 days. You can still eat them a few days after that but the texture may be on the soggier side.
